1. Kazaa no longer works, it is asking me to uninstall any ad blocking software on my PC.

Some programs such as Kazaa will not run if they are not able to display ads. These programs may inform you that you must uninstall any ad blocking software that you may have. THIS IS NOT NECCESSARY! If you would like to use these types of programs with AdsNoMore, the following workaround is available:

1) Bring up AdsNoMore by clicking on the icon near the clock
2) Choose the 'Options' tab
3) Remove the checkmark next to 'Enable banner ad blocking'

When you are done using Kazaa, you can re-enable banner ad blocking if you'd like. If you use Kazaa alot, you may want to leave this option unchecked.

2. Can AdsNoMore block ads from web browsers other than Internet Explorer, such as Netscape, Opera, and Mozilla?

AdsNoMore currently blocks popups from the following web browsers in addition to Internet Explorer:

  • Netscape v4.7, Netscape v6.x, Netscape v7.x
  • Opera v6.x
  • Mozilla (all versions)

3. I am still seeing banner ads. Why?

AdsNoMore blocks banner ads by blocking access to the server which is hosting it. If the server which is hosting the banner ad is not on the ad servers 'blocked' list, the banner will not be blocked. You can add servers to this list, you can also configure the list to block or allow content from the servers. Use the following steps to add a specific ad server to the list to block banner ads being hosted from it.

1) Right click on the ad (in your browser).
2) Choose properties (bottom of the list).
3) Take note of the URL of the image.
-e.g. The image url might be something like http://ads.someserver.com/i/img.gif or http://www.cnn.com/ads/img.gif

-In the first example, "ads.someserver.com" you can see that this is an ad server.  It would be useful to add this to the list.  You can only add domains or host names (just the ads.someserver.com part of the url).

-In the second example, " www.cnn.com " you shouldn't really block it.  Only the " www.cnn.com " can be added to the list.  If you blocked this host name, all content from cnn would be blocked.

To actually add a host name to the block list, you need to:
1) Bring up AdsNoMore by clicking on the icon near the clock
2) Choose the 'Ad Servers' tab
3) Click 'Configure Ad Servers...'
4) Type the ad server into the Ad server text box
5) Click the "<< Add" button
6) Click 'Save and Close'
7) You may have to restart the browser window for the change to take effect.

We're sorry that you can't just add parts of a url like "*/ads/*" or something like that.  It's a limitation of AdsNoMore by design.  AdsNoMore uses low level built in windows system functions to block ads but it's limited to host (server) names.  Doing anything else would require a much more cumbersome and error prone implementation which would just end up causing more errors (like many of the other ad filter programs).

4. My firewall is notifying me that AdsNoMore is asking for server rights? Why is AdsNoMore asking for server rights?

When banner ads are blocked, AdsNoMore uses the local host (your computer) to replace banner ad images with a blank white image. If this functionality is disabled, you will see broken links where the banner ad would normally be.

5. My firewall is notifying me that AdsNoMore is asking to access the internet Why is AdsNoMore accessing the internet?

AdsNoMore must access the internet to register the product, and check for updates, and check for the latest ad blocking data.

6. What are ad servers?

Ad servers are servers on the internet which host (supply) banner ads. See FAQ #1 for more information.

12. Strange ads on your desktop? Is your home page taken over? Do ads appear when you're not browsing?

Solution:
You may have "SpyWare" on your computer.  This is like a virus but it doesn't hurt your computer.  This spyware software runs silently and is meant to deliver advertising to your desktop and send your personal browsing habits and other private information to these spyware companies.

AdsNoMore is not spyware and currently does not block all ads caused by spyware but there's good news. There is software out there that can detect and help eliminate this "spyware". You can try this FREE software. We are not affiliated with them in any way but simply recommend them.

The software to help you remove spyware is called adaware and it helps remove common spyware. Download a trial from here:
